Commencement 2023

Commencement Retrospective: August 18, 2023

During our 106th Commencement Ceremony we honored 123 M.S.W. graduates and 6 Ph.D. graduates for their incredible accomplishments. Family, loved ones and friends gathered in John M. Greene Hall to celebrate this important milestone.

"It is time, fellow social workers, for us to reconsider what we do individually and collectively as professionals and to abandon all practices that make us complicit in the status quo. We must reconcile with our positionality, and our seductive and pervasive relationship with capitalism. We can no longer serve the neoliberal agenda and prerogative of the ruling class. We cannot address the major problems that confront society one individual at a time. And we can no longer merely tend to the wounds of a broken system; we must strive to heal the system itself."

-Doctoral Class Speaker Jamie Daniels, M.S.W. '14, Ph.D. '23
