Military-Related Outreach and Research

Our commitment to the mental health of servicemembers and Veterans extends beyond our curriculum and students, with efforts aimed to educate community providers who are working locally and nationally with this population.

Kathryn Basham, who leads these efforts, is involved with several outreach conduits, including the Veterans Outreach Project in Western Massachusetts (affiliated with Boston’s Home Base) and the national Military Network Radio. During the past eight years, Basham has served on three congressionally mandated committees sponsored by the Institute of Medicine and focused on the mental health and psychosocial needs of Veterans of the first Gulf War and the OIF/OEF/OND Veterans of wartime conflicts post 9/11. She has co-authored five texts providing meta-analyses of research aimed to assess the effects of war and the effectiveness of treatment programs. In addition, many students (both Ph.D. and M.S.W.) have completed outstanding research theses and dissertations in this area of scholarship.
