Institutional Review Board

The School for Social Work adheres to the policies and procedures of Smith College regarding the oversight of student projects involving human participants.

The Smith College Institutional Review Board (the IRB) is the body charged with reviewing all research involving human subjects prior to its commencement, whether funded or not. Such review pertains to studies conducted by Smith faculty, students, or staff, as well as outside investigators using Smith College students, personnel or facilities.

The  goal of the Smith College IRB is to assist all Principal Investigators in their efforts to protect the rights and welfare of individuals who participate in research conducted at or under the auspices of the College, and to ensure compliance with federal regulations regarding the protection of human subjects.
