Biography

Alberto Cifuentes Jr., Ph.D., LMSW, has been a community practitioner for over 20 years and has worked with various non-profit organizations, including GLSEN, Connecticut Students for a Dream (C4D), NASW/CT, and Q Plus. He has served many roles in these organizations, including board of directors chair, community outreach coordinator, student organizing adult coordinator, and mentoring program coordinator. He is the founder/chair of the Macro Social Workers Network of NASW/CT and serves as liaison for the Macro Social Work Student Network (MSWSN).

Cifuentes earned his Ph.D. and M.S.W. with a specialization in community organization from the University of Connecticut School of Social Work. He is an assistant professor and B.S.W. program coordinator at Southern Connecticut State University where he teaches courses in macro practice, generalist practice, social welfare policy, and research methods. His research focuses on how stigma impacts the rights, safety, and health outcomes of sex workers.
