Biography

Catherine Balletto, M.S.W., Ph.D. ‘21, LICSW, is a clinical social worker in private practice in Northampton, Massachusetts. Balletto is on the teaching faculty at the Institute for Expressive Analysis in NYC where she also supervises analytic candidates. She serves on both Ph.D. and M.S.W. teaching faculties at the Smith College School for Social Work, while also supervising Smith doctoral interns. She coordinates the M.S.W. second year psychodynamic theory course, previously Comparative Psychodynamic Theory for Social Work Practice, presently Critical and Integrative Approaches to Relationality in Clinical Social Work Practice.

Balletto has provided direct service, leadership and program development in various traditional and innovative settings, serving diverse, socially at risk populations. Most recently she was the director of operations and programs at Community Services Institute, co-located in Springfield and Boston, Massachusetts.

Balletto received her BFA from the School of Visual Arts in NYC and her M.S.W. from Hunter College. She trained psychodynamically at the Women’s Therapy Centre Institute in NYC (now the WTCI), earning a certificate in feminist relational psychodynamic psychotherapy from their three year program. Balletto completed additional training at the Institute for Human Identity, the first and oldest private institute founded to serve the LGBTQ+ community. She completed her Ph.D. at the Smith College School for Social Work.
