Biography

Jean Clarke-Mitchell, Ph.D., LICSW, is a core faculty member in the master of social work (M.S.W.) program at Lesley University and a social work educator, clinician, and scholar with over two decades of experience in trauma-informed and culturally responsive practice. She earned her Ph.D. and M.S.W. from the Smith College School for Social Work, a B.A. in Psychology from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, and a B.S. in Management from the University of Massachusetts. Clarke-Mitchell is the owner of Jean Clarke-Mitchell, Ph.D., LICSW, Psychotherapy and Consulting Services, and previously served as clinical director at the Elizabeth Freeman Center. Her teaching, research, and clinical work focus on intimate partner violence, domestic and sexual violence, children’s exposure to violence, resilience, and the experiences of African American mothers and daughters. She has taught at multiple institutions, is a SIFI-trained field instructor, and is widely recognized for her leadership, community advocacy, and commitment to equity-centered approaches to healing, supervision, and clinical practice.
