Biography

Kenneth L. Bourne Jr. is an award-winning social worker, educator, and advocate dedicated to advancing equity for Black boys and men. Named the 2024 Social Worker of the Year by the National Association of Social Workers Pennsylvania Chapter (NASW-PA), Bourne is the author of Anger Management for Black Male Teens and the founder of Bourne Anew, an organization providing evidence-based, culturally relevant, and trauma-competent programming. A first-generation college graduate, Bourne has become a leading voice on antiracist and trauma-competent practices. His work as a speaker and facilitator is in high demand, bringing him to universities, social work conferences, and organizations nationwide, where he inspires and empowers through his transformative framework. Bourne serves as a professor at Widener University’s Center for Social Work Education and on the faculty at the University of Tennessee. He holds an M.S.W. from Rutgers University, with specialized training in violence prevention and social work management.
