Miriam Desgazon is a psychotherapist and clinical supervisor who graduated from the Smith College School for Social Work in 2020 with a M.S.W. To further her clinical depth, she completed the Postgraduate Fellowship Program (PGFP) with the Massachusetts Institute for Psychoanalysis (MIP), specializing in psychodynamic theory.
For the past five years, Desgazon has been a vital part of the Institute for Health & Recovery (IHR). During her first two and a half years, she served as a clinician providing psychodynamic, trauma-informed, and attachment-focused therapy to families navigating the intersection of substance use, mental health dual diagnoses, and the complexities of DCF involvement. Utilizing the Liberation Health framework, she supported families through the profound traumas of systemic involvement and potential separation.
For the last two years, Desgazon has transitioned into a leadership role at IHR, where she currently provides clinical supervision to the staff delivering direct care. As a supervisor, she is dedicated to fostering a reflective and supportive space that empowers clinicians to deepen their clinical intuition while navigating the complexities of trauma-informed work. Beyond her role at IHR, she serves as a group consultant with the Austen Riggs Center IOP program for emerging adults, facilitating coping skills groups rooted in varied treatment modalities.
In her private practice, Desgazon remains rooted in psychodynamic principles while actively expanding her expertise to meet the holistic needs of her clients. She is currently undergoing advanced training to become a certified Somatic Therapist and is also completing training in EMDR. This dedication to integrating mind-body modalities reflects her commitment to providing comprehensive, liberation-focused healing.
