Biography

Sara Luby has worked in community, academic, clinical, and governmental settings in the field of public health, specifically communicable diseases for over 15 years. Her career has focused on advancing health equity, strengthening systems of care, and improving outcomes for historically excluded communities through harm reduction, community-driven advocacy, and systems-level quality improvement.

Currently, Luby is the director of quality and compliance at the oldest and largest HIV service organization in Southwestern Pennsylvania. She also serves as the board president of a Pittsburgh nonprofit organization dedicated to providing health services to people who use drugs.

At the Smith College School for Social Work, Luby has co-taught Racism in the U.S. since 2025. Her practice lens is informed by social justice frameworks that position clinical and policy work within historical, structural, and sociopolitical contexts.
