Sharlene Allen-Milton, M.S.W. ’97 named NASW-MD Social Work Educator of the Year

Sharlene Allen-Milton named NASW-MD Social Work Educator of the Year for 2024.

The Maryland Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW-MD) has named Sharlene Allen-Milton, M.S.W. ’97, LCSW-C, as their 2024 Social Work Educator of the Year. Allen-Milton earned a B.S.W. from Morgan State University, her M.S.W. from Smith College School for Social Work and an Ed.D. in human and organizational learning from George Washington University. 

As an assistant professor of social work at Morgan State University (Morgan), Allen-Milton bridges theory and practice in her work by incorporating case examples from her own career into her teaching with a goal of supporting students in becoming social work leaders. She also leads the school social work specialization for the Morgan School for Social Work.

Author of Honoring the WHOLE You: Everyday Work-Life Management Strategies for Professional Moms and Caregivers, Allen-Milton’s research focuses on remote social work and mental wellness, with a particular emphasis on work-life management. 

Allen-Milton bridges theory and practice in her work by incorporating case examples from her own career into her teaching with a goal of supporting students in becoming social work leaders. 

The Empowering Social Workers Awards highlight the work of social workers. Awards will highlight the exemplary work of Maryland social workers who have advocated, serviced, supported and/or educated communities, programs, and systems over the past year. Social workers can work in any sector of social work but must reside in Maryland to be nominated.
