Attending Smith SSW was the first time Georgette Saad, Ph.D. '22, LICSW, had experienced being at an institution that focuses on anti-racism and social justice, and it influenced her decision to pursue her doctorate at SSW.

Saad came to SSW with 10 years of experience in working with families and children, providing psychotherapy in a community health center in Washington, DC. She created and manages the Infant and Early Childhood Program there, serving families in both Spanish and English, and training new providers in several modalities, including Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT).
At SSW, her focus has been early childhood and evidence-based practice, with a specific emphasis on serving Latinx and Spanish-speaking families.

One of the experiences at SSW that surprised her was the depth and breadth of connections within the Smith SSW alumni network. She says, “I was most pleasantly surprised by how expansive and supportive the Smith network is and how readily alumni and professors create opportunities for growth.”
Saad deeply enjoys teaching, and has taught at both Catholic University and Smith College in the masters’ social work programs. She has trained many clinicians across the U.S. in evidence-based practices like Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). Having been awarded several grants to support families in Washington DC, Saad also received the Clinical Service and Advocacy Award in 2019, and presents at conferences nationally.
Looking toward her future, Saad is excited to implement many of the concepts she learned at SSW. Teaching and supporting BIPOC social workers is what she’s focusing on right now. “I am most looking forward to uplifting other social workers, particularly BIPOC social workers in the field. I am also excited to teach more regularly and explore greater platforms to forward the field.”
