Biography

Mary Carmody, RN, LCSW recently retired as the Director of Care Management and Social Work at the NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital and Rusk Rehabilitation. Throughout her career, Mary has worked in leadership positions in several academic medical centers in Care Management and Social Work. Mary also worked in End of Life Care at two prominent Hospices in South West Florida. Her positions included Director of Admissions as well as a corporate position overseeing Social Work, Bereavement and Volunteers.

She graduated from St. Vincent’s Hospital School of Nursing and received her Master’s in Social Work from Adelphi University.

Throughout her career, Mary has been very involved in Ethics Committees, End of Life Coalition groups, Community Education, Field Instruction and Social Work supervision in End of Life Care with the Zelda Foster Mentorship Program and Smith College, End of Life Certification for Social Work. Mary maintains a strong interest in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and has worked with colleagues to develop programs to promote wellness and resiliency among nursing, social work, care managers and all hospital staff.
