Biography

Ronjonette O'Bannon Ph.D., LCSW is the Dean of Campus Wellness and Strategic Initiatives at Spelman College in Atlanta, GA. She previously served as the Director of Counseling and has over 20 years of experience in clinical and administrative practice. In addition to her work at Spelman, O'Bannon serves on the faculties of the Smith College M.S.W. program and the University of North Alabama M.S.W. Program.

O'Bannon is passionate and dedicated to supporting the well-being among ethnically and culturally diverse communities through research, programmatic initiatives and the development of innovative strategies for informing mental health policies. She earned a Ph.D. in social work from Smith College, an M.S.W. from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and a postgraduate certificate in Trauma-Informed Clinical Care from SUNY Buffalo. Her professional experience and research interests include destigmatizing mental health care and help-seeking for women of color, the reciprocal relationship between childhood maltreatment, adult revictimization and well-being in higher education with a focus on students and staff members.
