A peaceful and creative evening of origami hosted by the Office of Alumni Engagement in partnership with Laurie Peter, M.S.W. '91 and origami master Josefina Callender. Whether you're looking to unwind, connect, or explore something new, this hands-on workshop will introduce you to the art of paper folding in a relaxed, welcoming environment. All materials are provided. No experience needed, just bring yourself.

This special event is made possible thanks to Laurie Peter’s continued generosity to the SSW community. Come to this one-of-a-kind evening of calm, craft, and connection. Kids are welcome.

About the presenter:

Josefina Callender is an educator, artist, and lifelong learner originally from Argentina, with a career rooted in the arts, language, and cross-cultural connection. Her path has included performing on stage, recording and touring as the lead singer in a reggae-funk-jazz band, and bringing arts education to Boston Public School children through immersive theater and music residencies. She has taught acting at Wellesley College, led bilingual story times in public libraries, and worked as a Spanish and French teacher in both Providence and New York City schools.

Callender discovered origami when her daughter was eight years old, and decades later, the practice returned to her life, this time bringing not only joy but a deeper appreciation for the quiet power of folding. What began as a pastime became a meaningful part of her creative life, opening doors to new friendships, travel to Japan, and the study of a new language.

To Callender, origami is more than paper folding; it's a meditative art form that invites us to slow down, reconnect, and engage with our imaginations. She is thrilled to share this craft with the SSW community and looks forward to folding together.
