Understanding Borderline Personality Through an Attachment-Informed Lens

This workshop considers the history and development of the concept of borderline personality pathology, drawing predominantly on attachment theory as a lens through which to understand the etiology, presentation and treatment of patients who live with a borderline personality organization. In particular, the workshop grapples with the stigma of borderline pathology, considering the inherent difficulties experienced in treating this patient population. It presents a therapeutic approach which emerges from a compassionate stance, arguing for the curative impact of compassion and empathy as fundamental aspects of an attachment-informed therapy with the borderline-afflicted patient.
