Standing Against Hate

My dear community,

Last night we learned that several drawings of swastikas were found on the walls of Seelye, Burton and Bass halls on Smith’s campus. The violence of anti-Semitism is real and destructive and the impact of these attacks is painful and distressing to our community. We thank President McCartney for her strong message of condemnation. You can read that message here.

We are in difficult times. Hate and intolerance motivated by bias related to faith, race, gender and sexuality is on the rise. In light of these and other events happening throughout the world we must each commit to continuing to speak up, seek out opportunities for action and use our voices for justice.

To all those members of our community who have been impacted by this horrendous event, we offer our support. We stand with you holding principles of love, inclusion and non-violence.

With love and respect,

Marianne RM Yoshioka, M.S.W., Ph.D. Smith College School for Social Work
