Dear SSW community,
I am writing with two pieces of wonderful news. First, we are pleased to share that in 2022, SSW will be able to host an in-person summer. There will be lots of things to figure out between now and then but we will keep you informed as our return to campus approaches.
Second, we are so excited that Kenta Asakura, M.S.W. ’04,. Ph.D., will be joining our faculty as of September 2022 as a tenured associate professor.
Dr. Asakura graduated from SSW in 2004. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto and is currently on faculty at Carleton University where he heads their doctoral program.
Dr. Asakura is one of the leading experts in the use of simulation. He is the director of SIM Social Work Research Lab at his current institution where he builds and studies the use of simulation in clinical training and also the use of simulation in clinical research data collection. He is also interested in doing more work in the area of virtual reality which offers interesting and largely unexplored opportunities.
He is a deeply experienced clinical social worker and researcher with particular expertise in working with queer populations. He brings a keen understanding of our five guiding principles.
We are delighted to welcome Dr. Asakura back to SSW!
Wishing you all the best,
