Assistant Professor Receives 2019 JSWE Best Teaching Note award
Assistant Professor Peggy O’Neill, Ph.D., LCSW received the 2019 JSWE Best Teaching Note award for her work titled ‘Constructing Critical Conversations: A Model for Facilitating Classroom Dialogue for Critical Learning.’ The acticle presents the critical conversations (CC) model for facilitating conversations that open up space for discussing power and privilege, oppression, and structural inequalities. Although such issues often activate emotional tension and conflict in classrooms, they can produce fertile dialogues that foster critical analysis when facilitated effectively. The authors offer the present model for social work instructors to build the necessary framework to conduct critical conversations.
