Each year, alumni near and far volunteer to serve the School for Social Work. Other graduate schools of social work education average less than 10 percent alumni participation. At Smith, a remarkable 24 percent of our alums are engaged in volunteer activities and participate in school-related events. Whether you're looking for a way to give of your time and talents on campus or closer to home, find your inspiration right here.
Lend a hand with Students
Volunteer for the Office of Admission
Prospective students can benefit from the expertise, experience and advice of those who have gone before them. Alumni volunteers act as links to the School, providing prospective students with information such as facts about the School, details about the field of social work, thoughts and perceptions of student life, personal experiences and your career path since graduating from Smith. The School also invites alumni to refer a student who they believe would be a good fit to SSW through the Refer a Student program.

Network with Peers
The Alumni Network is comprised of close to 5,500 SSW alumni across the U.S. and Canada. Get social and join fellow alumni in planning an event in your region or learn about alumni volunteer leadership.
Alumni Leadership Council (ALC)
The leadership of the Alumni Network and Office of Alumni Relations and Development have been re-tooling our infrastructure so that we can better work together to provide resources and opportunities for you to network with fellow alums, get involved with current students, share memories and maintain connections to the School. The Alumni Leadership Council works to create a strong sense of community and tradition, enrich the personal, professional and cultural lives of our alumni and students and links alumni back to the School.
Area Coordinators (AC)
Volunteer right in your hometown alongside your local community of alumni. Area Coordinators act as liaisons between students, alumni, and the School. ACs work under the guidance of the Office of Alumni Relations and Development to plan and facilitate local activities. Become a volunteer in your region!
