Master of Social Work (M.S.W.)
A sole focus on clinical social work.
At Smith SSW, you will learn clinical theory and practice and develop a thorough understanding of the social, economic, political and cultural contexts in which you will pursue clinical practice. Throughout your education, you will engage in critical thinking and self-reflection as you learn about the history and current status of social work and social welfare, get an introduction to the major practice methods and research, and delve into the major psychological and social theories that form the knowledge base of the profession. Issues of gender, race, ethnicity, class and oppression are intricately woven throughout the curriculum—a curriculum that centers social justice, service to society, and a greater appreciation of individual and cultural diversity in today’s multicultural community.
Our Five Core Principles
Our School is committed to five Core Principles of racial justice that guide all areas of our programs and work as we constantly strive towards greater anti-racism – an ongoing goal to which the entire School community aspires.
"It’s intense. It’s very rigorous academically. You’re doing a full semester in five weeks. I wondered at the time, ‘Can I really be learning all this information so quickly?’ but since I started my placement, I’ve found that I have.”
