M.S.W. Research Requirements

Research is a required component of M.S.W. level social work education and is a growing part of clinical social work practice. In Smith SSW’s block program design, students take two required research courses (one taken in each summer one and two), as well as specialization level elective research courses.
A research practicum is often available as an optional research experience. The research practicum involves work with a Smith College SSW faculty member on a project they develop and oversee. It is usually completed during the second field placement period. The research practicum is a specialization level research elective course.
