This webinar will serve as an overview of core social justice concepts such as privilege, power, intersectionality and oppression. These forces are at play in our day-to-day lives, our culture, our institutions and our clinical settings but often they go unnamed and unexamined. In this webinar, participants will explore the difference between diversity and social justice as frameworks and learn key social justice concepts including oppression, privilege, intersectionality, social identity and matrix of oppression. Finally, this webinar will help those attending to analyze their own experiences of privilege and oppression and identify concrete steps to apply a liberatory consciousness to their own spheres of influence.

Instructor Biography:

Tobias K. Davis (Toby) is a transgender educator, activist and playwright who uses theatre, writing, and teaching to advocate for a gender-inclusive society. Tobias has supported colleges, congregations, and communities in developing trans-inclusive policies and practices for almost 20 years. He holds a M.Ed. in Social Justice Education and is Inclusion Education Trainer/Facilitator and Advisor for Low Income/First Generation and Transgender/Nonbinary Students at Smith College's Office for Equity and Inclusion.
